[HAHA WHAT A LOADED QUESTION HUH!!!! But there's enough distance that he can look back and be honest. He's talked this through enough times that he knows what the answer is, and can express it more eloquently than just opening his mouth and yelling for half an hour uninterrupted.]

I was scared.

In the world I'm from most folks don't know about aliens or magic or the multiverse or anything like that. We think we're all alone in space and everything's just nice and normal and that's how it ought to be. And I learned that wasn't true in some very

upsetting

ways.

I couldn't change the fact of the things I knew so I wanted to un-know them. It felt logical at the time. And there were other people in the same situation, and I thought that meant what I was doing was helping. It never got as bad as what you saw. It might have if I hadn't wound up here instead.

Unless you meant why did make the Pterodactyltron. That's simpler. I did not react gracefully to my divorce.

[He still doesn't actually know if, uh, anybody died in that whole debacle. When he woke up on the patented Ryslig Bone Boat some of them were still in the hospital. He doesn't like to think about it.]
