CHARACTER
Character Name: Taako Taaco
Character Age: Somewhere over 100 because he’s an elf, but technically over 200 due to Canon Shenanigans. Physically an adult, appears as a human would in their mid-20's.
Canon: The Adventure Zone
Canon Point: The beginning of episode 59, when Taako is pulled under the quicksand illusion outside of The Director’s office.

History: Here is his wiki page, but since he's a main character and effectively in every episode (and that wiki isn't very descriptive), I'd also think it helpful to include the arc reference guide and transcripts of the episodes since he's from a podcast and an audio medium will take a long-ass time to get through. It should be noted he is coming in BEFORE regaining his lost memories, and therefore does not remember being from another plane or his twin sister as of now.

Personality: Taako is often described as a 'trickster'; he does what he wants, when he wants, how he wants it. Taako is in this life to get ahead and look perfect doing it... or so he'll say. While he is, on the surface, abrasive, joking, and frankly a bit of a dick, he also holds a lot of care in his heart for those close to him, and can be very sincere and touching when he feels someone has earned that right.

On the surface, Taako seems to do whatever he thinks will be funniest; he'll make jokes, play pranks, and outright insult people if the opportunity is presented. Often times, it's nothing personal- if it's funny, it's funny, even if it comes slightly at his own expense. He has gone so far with certain people, such as Leon the Artificer, that Leon won't even be in the same room as him after a long-running joke about a fake inability to put a coin in a slot. However, he rarely deals physical punishments unless attacked, and will show kindness to his friends and his fans, such as being courteous to Ren in Refuge when she expresses excitement over having seeing his show when she was younger. Even the people he likes will catch flack, however, and he never passes up an opportunity for a dig- though he will admit to his own mistakes when they are evident ("Yeah, that one's on me. That one's on Taako.")

While Taako doesn't often talk about his personal feelings or doings, those who work his way into his inner circle are held close to his heart. For instance, despite sitting back while Magnus and Merle get attacked at the beginning of the Crystal Kingdom arc, when Magnus is knocked out of his body near the end of Suffering Game, Taako doesn't even hesitate to throw his soul from his body in an attempt to save him. In addition, Taako initially stole Angus McDonald's silver set, but, in seeing how depressed the boy was over it's loss, not only gave him a few pieces of it back, but offered to train him in magic and also opened up about his past mistakes. When he does open up, it is hesitant and sudden, such as his admission to Kravitz during their date about his abandonment issues ("I'm afraid no one else will have me"), and multiple times in descriptive flavor text about his fear of being alone. He has started he not necessarily ashamed of these things, instead believing it's nobody else's business, but it's uncertain if he's lying to protect himself or he truly believes this.

Since Taako says no one needs to know about him personally, he prefers to appear aloof and carefree. He's clever, able to see through illusions and figure out puzzles easily over the course of the show, but will downplay his own intelligence, most likely to keep himself out of danger (stating multiple times that he is "a simple idiot wizard"). While Taako isn't a coward, he's cautious, and his 'good out here' mentality means he will stop to consider a situation before rushing in. That being said, he frequently uses magic to literally charm his way out of issues to avoid problems, and has an affinity for money and power, going out of his way to acquire those things for his personal gain. He's been known to take great care to his appearance, and has an affinity for luxuries where he can get them.

Overall, Taako's seen some shit, done some shit, but prefers to keep things light and funny rather than sink into something too overdramatic.

Inventory: For simplicity's sake, I'm gonna link to his current items list on the wiki, because it's very thorough. The only things not mentioned is a number of gold coins, the clothes on his back (including a silver bracer with a rune on it on his left arm), and the stupid pointy hat on his head. (Let me know if this is Too Much and I can condense it down to a more acceptable amount.)

Abilities: This is gonna get long bear with me. For reference, since The Adventure Zone is a Dungeons and Dragons podcast (specifically the 5e edition), a more comprehensive detail of how magic works in the universe can be found in the player's handbook, specifically under the "wizard" section (page 106, 113 for his school of magic) for Taako specifically and the "spellcasting" chapter for general spell rules (page 183).

Taako is a level 12 transmutation wizard. A full list of spells he has used in the show can be viewed here, and in more detail here on this journal. Basically, wizards are prepared spellcasters, so they can learn anything as long as it is within the wizard spell list and their school of magic. They are allowed to have a certain number of spells they can prepare each day (dictated by level; Taako can prepare 15 at level 12), along with a certain number they can cast each day of each level (as dictated by "spell slots"). At level 12, Taako can cast 4 first level spells, 3 second level, 3 third level, 3 fourth level, 2 fifth level and 1 sixth level spell. Certain spells can be cast at higher levels for additional power, but no higher level spells can be cast in a lower level slot. These slots are regained after a long rest (about 6 hours) or more generally once per day. In the show, they often play fast and loose with these rules, but for the sake of not giving him Every Power Of The Known Universe, I'm going to stick with the spells as listed above. While I go into more detail in the second link, it should be known that while powerful, Most D&D spells are incredibly short lived (1 minute for most) and do not always succeed; for roleplaying purposes, should Taako ever cast a spell on another played character, I will reach out to that person regarding how that scene would take place and if the spell would be effective. He also has a number of magical items, which would abide by the same rules (and, for the most part, can only be used once per day). It's also important to note that he's fairly physically weak- as oppose to his other party members, he has less than half their HP, due to the amount of magical power he wields, so he's a bit of a glass cannon and wouldn't hold his own in a physical fight for a long period of time.

In addition to this, before becoming a wizard, Taako was a semi-celebrity chef and the host of a cooking show, "Sizzle It Up with Taako". While he doesn't cook as much anymore due to a rather unfortunate accident in the show's last episode, he's an incredibly accomplished chef and has an impressive knowledge of food and flavor profiles. He's also fluent in 6 languages for some reason, none of which will actually be useful to him in Hadriel.

Flaws: While Taako is best described as a 'trickster', it is more appropriate to refer to him as a massive, massive jerk. First and foremost, Taako will do things that he thinks are funny with little regard to what happens as a result of that. While he does have people he considers close to him that he acts more compassionate about, he will tease, belittle, and make jokes at the expense of even those he loves, often right to the offended party's face. He's been known to loot corpses and even early on in the show literally stole from a child (though he did admit to feeling bad about it later, and made an effort to give something back in return). In addition, Taako can be hesitant when danger is involved, and has "good out here" mantra has lead to him sitting back while his teammates deal with a problem on more than one occasion, simply due to his own laziness. He's also incredibly vain, complaining at least once of having to use a spell to help someone else but thinking nothing of using magic to keep up his own beauty.

Possibly the worst out of these options that have been shown on multiple occasions that not only is Taako down with murder, but he has little to no regard if someone lives or dies unless he already cares about them. In the final episode of his cooking show, Taako flees the scene after believing he poisoned and subsequently killed 40 viewers in a transmutation mixup; while this has been shown to wear on him, it is less over the trauma of killing, and more because he is upset his "brand" is being besmirched and he can no longer be famous and make money. In addition, when he later finds out he is not actually responsible for the deaths and is given a chance to go back and fix it, he immediately becomes chipper and says "well then that's not my fault anymore!" and refuses the deal. While he has been shown to be diplomatic and would certainly rather talk his way out of a problem than fight, that is primarily due to his laziness, and should not be seen as an indicator of mercy on his part.

Finally, Taako will often do things just for the sake of making other people squirm, or possibly actively to the detriment of the party. The best example of this is his final exchange at Fantasy Costco with Garfield the Deals Warlock; Taako purchased an item whose only use was to convince others to trade it for their most valuable piece, and then swindled the shopkeeper out of an incredibly powerful sword that Taako can't even wield. Instead of giving it to the party fighter, he chose to keep it purely for aesthetic purposes (though he does eventually relent and allow Magnus it's use, but only after nearly 10 episodes of just having it for the sake of having it). He will often do this, especially with money, to keep as many things as he can for himself.
